1978 Paul Heuberger stands for the first time on a skateboard. 1979 he built
the first ramp, a quarterpipe at the garage door of his parents' home in
Arlesheim. 1980, Paul is Swiss champion and holds the junior record in the
Swiss skateboard high jump with 1.19 m. He founded the Skate Club Riehen. In
the following years Paul is Halfpipe Swiss champion and skates at European top
level. In a skate camp in Bourges (France), he gets to know Tony Hawk, Mike
McGill, Kevin Staab, and other professionals from the United States. He decides
that he wants to be a skateboard pro too. For a time he lives in Geneva,
because the there is the only indoor skate park in Switzerland where he can
skate every day. Paul lives in the Christian mission because it’s the cheapest
accommodation.
Paul is sponsored by Brazil distribution, is photographed for Swiss
magazines and is on the way, to live from skateboarding. He is also a daredevil
who tried to land tricks, when it almost does not go well. Injuries always
throw him back. After the recovered from two wrist fractures he was in a shoot
for the “Schweizer Illustrierte” where he tore his ligament on the knee.
Walking on crutches adds his wrists further damage. Overall, Paul is injured
one and a half years, and recognizes little by little that it will be nothing with
his professional career due to his injuries from the past.
